Jammu and Kashmir: Eight terrorists killed in 2 separate encounters in Shopian and Pulwama

Eight terrorists were killed in Jammu and Kashmir in two separate encounters during the last 24 hours. Three terrorists were killed in Awantipora area of Pulwama district while five others were killed in Shopian district.
"The Awantipora operation has ended while the Shopian operation is still going on," said police. As per reports, the security forces did not suffer any casualty during the encounters.
Director-General of Jammu and Kashmir Police Dilbag Singh on Friday said that the security personnel have gunned down three terrorists at Pampore area of Awantipora in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district.
One terrorist was killed on Thursday in the encounter in Meej village of Awantipora area. Two others had then taken refuge inside local Jamia mosque in the village.
According to Vijay Kumar, IGP (Kashmir), "Patience and professionalism worked. No use of firing or IED. Used tear smoke shells only. Maintained the sanctity of the mosque. Both militants hiding inside the mosque have been neutralised."
In a statement, the Indian Army said: "Encounter at Meej village in Pampore area of Awantipora - Maintaining the sanctity of the mosque, 2 terrorists hiding inside eliminated. Total 3 terrorists killed. Precise operation with no collateral damage ensured. Operation in progress."
The terrorists belonged to the Jaish-e-Muhammad (JeM) outfit.
At least four terrorists have been killed in the encounter, which is ongoing, in Shopian district on Friday. "Two more terrorists have been eliminated in Munand area of Shopian district in Jammu and Kashmir. So far, four terrorists have been killed in the operation which is still in progress," PRO Defence, Srinagar said.
One terrorist was killed in the encounter on Thursday. As per the J&K Police, the terrorists were a mixed group of both JeM and Hizbul Mujahideen.
